Warning: Reading this may give you stress, especially if you are in favor of outlawing smoking in Scottsdale bars and restaurants. You see, I'm not very nice to those who believe that liberty means having the freedom to take away other people's freedom.

I am an anti-smoke in my airspace zealot/fanatic. But even I do not support government making private business owners enforce non-smoking laws. This is just wrong and government overstepping its bounds.

I do however support any and every law oulawing smoking in public areas including outdoors public property.

There is an old Mongolian saying: if you don't like the smell of yaks, stay away from yaks.

Great...Now they're gonna ban poor, old yaks.

I have never smoked, and if my son ever tries it, I'll make him eat his least-favorite food, broccoli, until he pukes.

Now that's not very nice. Besides, I think broccoli tastes good.

Btw, I agree with him, government has no business legislating whether private enterprises allow smoking or not. Customers can go elsewhere if they don't like it.

Good post excellent point.

In response to a post yesterday on The World Health Organization reporting that 1 in 5 Accidental deaths world wide we caused by automobiles I responded.

"It is shocking. Something must be done. I think first we'll ban driving in office buildings especially on elevators. Then create driving and non driving sections in restaurants. Then we'll make restaurants no driving only. Then we'll go from there."

May I ask why you feel a need to restrict OUTDOOR smoking?

Why do non-smokers think that they have the right to take that right away? Instead of behaving like spoiled brats who have to get their way, they should simply take their business elsewhere.

Why do smokers think they have the right to force others to inhale smoke? Instead of behving like selfish brats who have to get their way, they should simply smoke on their own property.

You know what? The lawmakers are NO better then any of us! All of us could run for office. They put their pants on the same as the rest of us.

But when they get into office, they think they are little gods that can now dictate and rule and control their "little constituents" to no end.

Well, they are fast learning that we are NOT sheeple out here. They are no better then the rest of it. Just because they have Congressman or Representative in front of their name does NOT make them my ruler. They are nothing to me.

We "constituents" voted them INTO office and we "constituents" can vote their azzes OUT!

Granted, broccoli doesn't smell the greatest but cooked half-way so it's still crisp then doused with cheese, hmmm, can't beat it. Now peas, that another story...

On public property which I have to visit I don't think anyone has a right to make me breath their smoke. They can smoke at home, in their car, or in private property with the permission of the owner. On public property, I don't want to breath smoke or pay someone to clean up the butts. Let me be clear, I hate cigarette smoke. But as long as its done privately, that's the smoker's business. When it's in my face it becomes MY business and I'll do everything to make sure they know it. I'm belligerent about it.

Oh, and I'LL be the judge of what is harmful to me or not. It's offensive to me that people think they can tell me what is harmful to me or my kids. Othewise, I'll open a bottle of chemicals next to people and their kids, and then tell them to PROVE that it isn't harmful, but until then they'll just have to put up with it.

That's the key right there. Hold the cheese on mine though. Actually, I'll sprinkle a little romano on there. I put romano cheese on almost any kind of food. Kinda stanky, now that I think about it.

But as disgusting as smoking is, I prefer the company of smokers who mind their own business to the company of non-smokers who mind other people's business.

It has been my experience that people in the smoking sections of planes (long ago) and restaurants are more friendly and seemingly are having more fun. This is perhaps because they appreciate freedom, while non smokers appreciate suspension of other's freedom.
